As the security cabinet met in Jerusalem, a crowd of hundreds protested outside the office of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister, demanding all remaining hostages be freed. This came after a Hamas’ decision to postpone any anticipated release of hostages, which raised fear and anxiety among the families and supporters. Netanyahu met with security officials to address the situation.
Some placed red paint on their hands in representation of the blood that was shed during the October 7th 2023 attack as well as the people still captured in Gaza, while others waved flags and banged on drums. The demonstrators shouted, “We will not abandon them!” showcasing the frustration towards to the government.
Citing Israel’s inability to live up to the terms of an already fragile ceasefire, Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’ Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigade asserted on Monday that they will not go forward with any further hostage exchange. “The release of the prisoners which was set to take place on February 15, 2025, will be kept on ice until the occupation fulfills its promises,” Abu Ubaida added.
On the other hand, he reiterated Hamas’ position that they will stand by the agreement as long as Israel fulfills its obligations.
