Punjab police arrest 95 drug smugglers, seize heroin and opium

With this, the total number of drug smugglers nabbed stands at 2,231. The drive is being launched on the instructions of director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, in all 28 districts of the state.

With the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” in Punjab reaching its 18th day, the state police on Tuesday arrested 95 drug smugglers and seized 11 kg heroin, 7.5 kg opium and ₹31,000 drug money from their possession.

With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has increased to 2,231. The operation is going on at the instructions of the director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, in the 28 districts of the state. During a sampark meeting held by Malerkotla police in association with civil administration at village Ferozpur Kothala, 40 panchayats have given a joint resolution to fight the drug evil together.

Special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla informed that more than 250 police teams, including over 1,600 police personnel, raided 539 locations in the state resulting in the registration of 61 first information reports (FIRs). Police teams also screened 599 suspicious individuals during the operation which was carried out for a day, he further mentioned.
