Palestinian village of Jit—Massacring, razings, and looting of a Palestinian village—The new American strategy to achieve peace?
Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are left to cope with the destruction of a village by Israeli settlers yesterday that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man and the other injured in the rampage’s identical assault on Palestinians in the region.
The Palestinian Health Ministry added on Friday that Mahmoud Abdel Qader Sadda was killed from gun shooting in the attack on Jit village, north of the West Bank, some 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of Nablus.
About 100 armed Israelis wearing masks attacked the residents of the village, shooting and burning vehicles, as well as homes and other buildings, according to the eyewitnesses and the video of the attack.
The attack happened at the time of frequent attacks by the Israelis on Palestinians in the West Bank; the violence has escalated amid the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.
Of the 705 people counted by the UN OCHA, 103 of the Palestinians killed by Israeli forces and settlers have occurred in the West Bank in the period between October 7, the start of the Gaza war, and August 12 only.
Human rights organizations have also accused Israel of perpetrating an “endemic impunity” for its forces, including settlers it arms and deploys against Palestinians.
I can only imagine the kind of uproar that raged in Palestinian society and across the globe when the news of the assault on Jit broke out, and probably many of the foreign presidents who are still supporting militarily and diplomatically Israel in the Gaza war were equally unhappy.
