Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Ukraine’s recent incursion into Russia’s Kursk region would not affect Moscow’s military capabilities in east Ukraine. Yelling to school children in Siberia, he claimed that the actions of Ukrainian forces would not hinder Russia’s advances in the Donbas area.
The surprise attack on August 6 has been said to have forced about 130000 civilians to flee and keep Ukrainian troops south of the Kursk border region. Nevertheless, Moscow has gone on to attack eastern Ukraine and has rejected the withdrawal of troops from the seized territories regarding the Kursk case.
“Their calculation was to stop our advances in the strategic areas of the Donbas,”
Putin said, and we all know the outcome…”They did not succeed in stopping our advances.” Putin further stressed that his country is experiencing military momentum it has not witnessed in a long time.
Kyiv’s strategy in entering Kursk is thought to include encircling the Russian military beyond its capacities and forcing it to switch reserves in eastern Ukraine. Putin said,
“We have to act with regard to these bandits who have encroached into the Russian Federation, especially the Kursk region, to effect any unrest. ”
The most recent rhetoric has deviated from Putin’s previous opinions in which he had described the invasion as a ‘process that has occurred.’
