Presently, Rafah city in Gaza is living a tragic human drama as more than one million of its population are refugees who were expelled at gunpoint due to the war. This massive displacement and Israeli aggression come as Israeli forces escalate the violence in the region, with four people killed in the last day alone.
This and previous cease-fire initiatives required providing a halt to the fighting, and while the most recent truce proposal has been receiving more concern, Israeli leaders have raised concerns. This is especially so given that the International Criminal Court is reportedly weighing the odds on issuing arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister.
The Hamas militant group has endorsed the truce, but it is still waiting for any other written communication regarding the implementation of the plan. I will briefly explain some of the recent humanitarian disasters that have occurred in the Gaza Strip and its cities. The United Nations considered the cities of Jabala and Beithunoone in the northern Gaza Strip’s ‘disaster areas’ after the Israel military campaigns.
Actions inside Gaza have worsened significantly; the Gaza government has stated that more than 3,500 children face death from starvation since Israel imposed limitations on supplies of humanitarian aid. Despite the truce and cessation of fighting, the scale of destruction is enormous – at least 36 479 Palestinians have been killed, and 82 777 have been injured since October 7. Onlookers of the situation, that is, the international society, have called for both parties to get to a diplomatic resolution.
