Regional diplomats discuss Syria’s future amid tensions

In a meeting held on regional issues in Jordan, regional diplomats discussed Syria’s post-Assad future. It also addressed rising tensions-a condemnation of recent Israeli incursions into the buffer zone and a call for Israeli forces to pull out from Syrian territory.

Border crossings with Turkey and Lebanon are also witnessing unprecedented congestion as people try to return home after years of living abroad because of the war.

The correspondent for Al Jazeera in Damascus reported that Israeli air strikes shook the Syrian capital on Friday night, targeting the headquarters of the army’s fourth division and a radar battalion in the countryside.

Meanwhile, new satellite imagery indicates that Russia’s military is dismantling equipment at the Khmeimim airbase in Syria’s Latakia province. However, Russian media has reported that Moscow is in contact with the opposition group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in an effort to ensure its bases remain in the country.
