Kolkata doctor rape-murder: In the wake of the barbarous rape and murder of a lady doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, thousands of women came out on to roads in West Bengal on the night of Wednesday.

The ‘Reclaim the Night,’ which likely started from social media sites, started around 11:55 pm, the time which coincided with Independence Day rituals, and then fanned out across principal zones of both small towns and giant cities—several of the significant points of interest in Kolkata. The protests, however, were characterized by violence at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where an unidentified mob attacked the emergency ward and caused the destruction of property. The bodies of the doctors were kept inside a seminar hall of the hospital.
