Robert De Niro gets into a heated exchange with Trump supporters.
Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro engaged in a fiery confrontation with supporters of former US President Donald Trump outside a New York courtroom. There, the hush money trial against Trump was underway. Flanked by retired police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, injured during the Capitol riots, De Niro called Trump a “clown” and “dictator,” accusing him of instigating violence.
Referring to the 2020 elections, the actor said democracy would be in danger if Trump returned to power. He opined that voting for Joe Biden is the sole way to protect freedoms.
De Niro’s remarks drew boos from the crowd. In response, he labeled Trump a “two-bit playboy” and “grubby real estate hustler.”
As chants of “F*** Joe Biden” grew louder, De Niro continued criticizing the former president. Trump’s spokesperson dismissed De Niro as “washed up,” a view echoed by an agitated supporter.
Dunn and Fanone accompanied Biden’s team to campaign in swing states before his first presidential debate in June.
De Niro’s scathing criticism of Trump sparked a tense stand-off. While facing backlash, the veteran actor did not shy away from voicing strong condemnation of the former leader.
