Romania, a NATO member state, has declared intentions to send a Patriot missile system to Ukraine as Ukraine has been urging its partners to improve air defense as Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Earlier informed last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia has wiped out over 50% of power generation plants in Ukraine as it now seeks 7 Patriot missile systems, besides aerial protection, to safeguard its cities.
On Thursday, the Supreme Council of National Defence of Romania stated,
“As a result of preliminary analyses, worsened security threats in Ukraine, council members agreed to provide Ukraine a Patriot system to work in close cooperation with allies.”
Saying thank you, President Zelenskyy, for instance, posted on X, which used to be Twitter, appreciating the delivery by noting that
“This crucial contribution will strengthen our air defense and allow us to improve the protection of our citizens and critical infrastructure from the Russian air terror.”
The action has emerged as both sides press for the other’s capability to conduct a war, now in the third year. Russia restarted its strikes on Ukraine’s electrical network via drone. The GuardianKyiv’s forces retaliate with cross-border drone attacks on Russian oil.
The Ukrainian air force declared that Russia targeted ten mines with nine missiles and used 27 Shahed drones on energy facilities and key infrastructure in central and eastern Ukraine. Although all the drones and five cruise missiles were repelled by air defenses.
The attack hit the power frameworks in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, and Vinnytsia regions of Ukraine, with an extensive impact on ‘power structures,’ per the Ukrenergo. Seven workers were injured in the strikes, said the authority.
The Ukrainian company Ukrenergo has reported that, while receiving electricity imports and emergency supplies from other European states of the continent, blackouts have been prolonged in the whole country.
Authorities in two regions in Russia said that they had experienced fires at oil storage depots caused by drone attacks; this came two days after a Ukrainian attack ignited a major fire at another refinery. Irrespective of the target, the drone attacks were conducted by Ukraine’s Security Service, according to a security official from Kyiv interviewed by The Associated Press.
The daily aggression of attacks by both sides highlights the continuation of the war and the intensity as the fight reaches its third year.
