Russian air strikes hit Kyiv as conflict intensifies

Russia conducted an air attack on Kyiv, which is following the increase in tensions between Ukraine and Russia. As it was reported by the city’s military administration through Telegram, in the early Monday morning, Ukraine air defense units engaged and repelled dozens of cruise and ballistic missiles.

On the same note, officials in Russia’s Belgorod region shared that a Ukrainian attack razed down a facility hosting a childcare center; this shows the continuous sequence of striking operations between the two countries. Ukrainian forces said it had destroyed 22 of 35 launched missiles and 20 of 23 attack drones in several areas, including Kyiv City, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia.

However, these attempts at de-escalation did not hold as explosions went up in Kyiv, thereby making people flee to their shelters. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that emergency services had been sent to the Holosiivskyi and Solomianskyi districts, with at least one person in the Shevchenkivskyi district injured by debris from the attack. Andriy Yermak, the head of the President’s Office, said after the occurrences, “There will be an answer for everything. The enemy will feel it. ”

Explosions were also heard in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, especially in the Industrial district. Explosions in civilian facilities caused fires in apartment buildings.

In Belgorod, officials, including Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, stated that several schools would switch to distance learning after a kindergarten was destroyed. “It’s a bad morning for the Belgorod region,” he wrote in a social media post.

The previous day, Russia stated that it downed 158 Ukrainian drones in the largest attack in the war that has now lasted more than two years. Ukrainian troops also attacked the Kursk region, and Russian troops have been unable to adequately respond to the Ukrainian invasion.
