Belarusian media outlet NEXTA said two Molotov cocktails were thrown by unidentified individuals into the garden inside the consulate grounds. There was an explosion close to the Russian consulate in the southern French city of Marseille, Reuters quoted local media as saying on Monday. Firemen were present, it added.
A Belarusian media outlet NEXTA reported that unidentified individuals hurled two Molotov cocktails into the garden on the grounds of the consulate, preliminary data said. The NESTA report also stated that a stolen vehicle was discovered close to the attack site and that there were no casualties.
The French interior ministry also reported that there were no victims in the attack, Reuters added. Russia, which described it as an act of terrorism, urged French authorities to probe the incident, and that Moscow was making every effort to bring France’s attention to this, state news agency TASS reported.
“The blasts on the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille have all the signs of a terrorist attack,” TASS cited Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying. We call for (from France) full and immediate measures to probe, as well as measures to enhance the security of Russian foreign missions.” But French police didn’t immediately confirm reports of an explosion heard at the Russian consulate.
