Russian missile attack in Kyiv claims one life

An official from Ukraine said the attack was carried out using Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and Iskander/KN-23 ballistic missiles. At least one person is reported to have been killed and seven injured following a Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s capital.

According to Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, the attack in the morning damaged buildings across the city and ignited fires in some. According to Popko, Russia launched eight missiles on Kyiv while using hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and Iskander/KN-23 ballistic missiles.

Fires also raged in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts and at a construction site in the Dnipro district. The city mayor reported at least seven people wounded, four of whom were hospitalized.

The Ukrainian Air Force said earlier Friday that a MiG-31 Russian fighter jet, which can carry hypersonic missiles, had been spotted taking off from a Russian airbase, the Kyiv Independent reported before the air raid. Ukraine’s Air Force later on Friday said it downed five ballistic missiles and 40 drones, while another 20 drones did not reach their targets.
