Biden Street and Biden Way, both close to his childhood home, are among the many places in Scranton, Pennsylvania, named after President Joe Biden.
Scranton in Pennsylvania has no shortage of addresses dedicated to its most famous son, President Joe Biden: There’s Biden Street, which runs past the courthouse and the well-known “Electric City” sign; the President Joseph R Biden Jr Motorway into the centre of town; and Biden Way, an honoured roadway not far from Biden’s birthplace and the home he lived in until he was ten years old, reports The Guardian.
Inside Hank’s Hoagies, just around the corner from Biden’s childhood home, a life-size cutout of the president stands beside the shelves of memorabilia. Biden’s even in the restaurant’s Hall of Fame.
Despite deep connections between the president and Scranton, his final weekend visit to the city was decidedly low-key: he visited two union halls to turn out voters for Kamala Harris, taking his granddaughter Natalie on stage with him at one stop and leading a “Happy Birthday” singalong for a union worker at another.
As The Guardian writes, Joe Biden may have represented Delaware in the US Senate for over three decades, but he has always made it clear he is a son of Scranton. For a president who has staked his presidency on the nation’s soul, Scranton-that small city nestled in the mountains of the Wyoming valley in what might be the most important swing state in the nation has served as his moral compass. His adopted nickname, after all, is “Scranton Joe.”.
