Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Indian Army confirmed that an encounter is in progress between security forces and terrorists along the LoC in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was initiated following intelligence reports of a suspected infiltration attempt in the region.
In a tweet shared on X, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said an anti-infiltration operation was jointly launched by the Indian Army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Uri sector of Baramulla. The alert troops noticed suspicious activity and subsequently challenged them. However, an exchange of fire ensued after the terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing. The operation is ongoing, with security forces actively engaging against the threat.
In a related development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two terrorists in Poonch district, Additional Director General of Police Anand Jain said. The arrests, he said, have solved some grenade attack cases in the region.
Speaking to ANI, Jain pointed out the significance of these arrests, as they had been involved in activities that included grenade attacks and the distribution of anti-national propaganda. “We achieved a big breakthrough in these arrests as these persons had carried several attacks that include grenade assaults on Gurudwaras, temples, hospitals, and army bases. Their objective was to cause problems in communal amity in the area,” Jain said.
Earlier on Friday, the security forces arrested a terror affiliate in the Dundak area of Surankote, Poonch district. Police confirmed that four grenades have been recovered from the suspect, and it is a major step toward resolving recent terror activities in the region.
In a separate incident, the body of Ashok Chauhan, a migrant laborer from Bihar with bullet injuries, was recovered in the Shopian district on Friday, further raising concerns about security in the area.
