Severe malnutrition crisis in northern Gaza Amid Cease-fire talks

About one-third of secondary-level children aged under two in northern Gaza are currently suffering from severe malnutrition, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). There is an imminent threat from this untenable situation of a calamity of hunger bound to occur in this region, which has intensified the pressure on Israel to act upon this predicament.

The only way to follow this is that Israel will send a team to scout from Qatar, and there on will be held talks with mediators upon a proposal of ceasefire from Hamas. The suggestion contains the redemption of these people and their release from imprisonment. It is pointed out that Mr. David Barnea, the head of the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad), accompanies the delegation that refers to the proposal by the Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. However, Netanyahu’s office stated that the bid terms shook the basis of reality.

The attempts to agree on the temporary cease-fire week before the advent of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan (Ramzan) did not yield the desired results. Subsequently, Israel used a missile attack on the stronghold of Hamas in the west bank of the Rafah, which is the latest relatively calm city in Gaza. The possibility of delay in accidental and civilian casualties in Rafah has elevated concern, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed worry.

Hamas proposes that –after reviewing the names of Palestinians in Israeli jails, they will define a specific number to leave. In return, the imprisoned Israelis in the Gaza Strip will be freed. It implies a two-week truce to supply assistance to Gaza, with the extra chance of additional talks to halt the war. In general, Israel uses the temporary ceasefire only as a peaceful settlement option and refuses to accept an end to the aggression.

The conflict has seen 1200 casualties, with the majority being civilians and up to 253 people hostage by Hamas. The Health Ministry in Gaza stated in its reports that out of over 31,500 deaths, people – women and children – died within a short period during the Israeli’s ground and air attacks. According to Israel, they murdered at least 13,000 Hamas militant body members.

UNRWA’s approach calls attention to the rapid spread of malnutrition among children in Gaza. Carrying food aid trucks to Jabalia, Beita Hanoun, and Beita Lahiya for the first time in four months, a flour delivery to a UNRWA branch was made.

International community exerts more pressure on the Israeli side to allow humanitarian aid for people in need, meanwhile the Israeli side continues that it allows free entrance and blame the backlog on the organizational capacity or inadequacy of their operational departments. About Jordan, Queen Rania, the King’s spouse, indicates that he is the one who breaches the agreement as he does not supply the essential resources needed for the country to survive.
