Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged supporters of the Awami League to maintain their composure while vowing to seek justice for party leaders killed amid escalating political violence during Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’ administration.
In a virtual address on Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina spoke directly to the widows and children of Awami League leaders who have fallen victim to recent unrest, stating, “I urge you to remain patient and united. I will return, avenge our martyrs, and deliver justice as I have in the past. You have my word.”
The Awami League claims that over 400 of its members have been killed by Islamist groups and affiliates of Jamaat-e-Islami since Hasina’s ouster in August 2024. Following the fall of her government, party leaders and their families have reportedly faced systematic targeting across the nation.
Hasina accused Yunus of failing to govern effectively and facilitating violence, asserting, “Yunus has no experience in running a government. He dissolved all inquiry committees and unleashed terrorists to attack innocent people. They are destroying Bangladesh. We will dismantle this government of terrorists.”
In parallel developments, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced that the interim government is set to conduct the next general elections in December 2025. This declaration followed a meeting between BNP officials and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka, signaling a critical moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape.
