Shooting incident at Finnish school leaves three 12-year-olds injured

A shooting event with 3 children being hurt at a school in Finland made all students, parents, and teachers feel grief and misunderstanding of the world. The 12-year-old culprit has been arrested by the police, who are actively involved in the event. Authorities have also reported that the victims were transported to the hospital for further assessment and medical treatment. Receiving the incident’s consequence, they boarded the school building, and parents collected their children from the nearby school building.

The moment the police arrived no interference came up, the suspect was calmly taken into custody as well as the firearm they were going to destroy. No more information about the case that can be distributed is available now.

The morning of the day had started in a very strange manner as the accident happened at Viertola school in the city of Vantaa, located in Helsinki. The school has nearly 800 students who are from preschool to Junior High and also there are around 90 staff members of the local mayor.

Sari Laasilla, the headmaster of school Viertola, alleged that the threat at present has been evacuated, but refused to give more information of the situation. According to the Statement of Mari Rantanen, Minister of Interior Affairs, she expressed sympathy and empathy for the families suffering, occurring the nightmare once and for all. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo mentioned it as a terrible incident and wished the victims and their families to get better soon. Also, he wants the school and the whole community to be with all of them during these tough times.

The previous school shootings in Finland have historically occasioned the country to take a critical approach and review the question of guns. In 2007, there was a serious shooting incident at Kauhajoki school that caused injuries and death of ten people. Just a year later, in 2008, a similar case was reported in Jokela High School. Then, it tightened the gun control law by, for instance, introducing a knowledge and skills test for firearms applicants and upgrading the minimum age to 20.

Besides about 1.5 million legally owned firearms and approximately 430,000 license holders, we had a population of 5.6 million. Hunting and recreational shootings still keep on being highly graded sporting activities in the United States of America.
