South Africa’s T20 World Cup final heartbreak

Following South Africa’s 10-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup final in November 2024, the star batter has spoken of his sadness. It was a very close call for the Proteas, who were on the brink of winning their first global trophy before they lost out in a rather pulsating match.

Having taken a break during the last/powerplay overs, Miller remained a spectator as Klaasen’s cameo brought the Proteas within a range of 30 runs and 30 balls to go. Nevertheless, Jasprit Bumrah, alongside Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, was sensational with the ball, especially in the powerplay, leaving the South African batting division strangled.

When 16 runs were needed in the last over, the Gujarat-born cricketer Miller came under pressure and tried to clear Pandya for a six on the first ball of the last over. Suryakumar Yadav’s dramatic over-line touch cut short South Africa’s dream. Thus, Miller was left cursing his luck, describing it as a ‘hard nut to crack’.

However, Miller was proud of his team’s performance and their run during the entire tournament. It was a bitter blow, especially for South Africa, which has been ranked among the cricket superpowers but has failed to clinch any major trophy.
