Sri Lanka launches probe after citizens arrested in India for terror plot

This is a worrying development because Sri Lankan authorities have launched investigations into the subject matter after arresting four of its citizens in India on terrorism-related charges but to carry out similar activities in the country. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad apprehended the four suspects at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Airport, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.

It was later established that the suspects had traveled to Kerala from Colombo through Chennai, and the police believed that one of the investigators of the IS group was a militant from Sri Lanka living in Lahore, Pakistan.

It has been made a claim that intending to settle the identification of the two, as well as the investigation into their links with the IS, the Sri Lankan state intelligence wanted more information from the Indian state intelligence.

At the media briefing, Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles and IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon expressed that the issue is serious and assured that they will try to provide the Indian authorities with thorough data on the suspects and their activities.

The arrested persons have also stated before the policemen that they were members of NTJ, which was banned in Sri Lanka earlier, and later, they joined ISIS.

The ATS team seized three pistols made in Pakistan and twenty cartridges from a place in Ahmedabad after the arrested accused persons revealed the information to the ATS team. The operatives, who the agencies have claimed were in contact with several Pakistan-based handlers, were alleged to have been receiving these weapons for the act of terror they intended to conduct in India.
