Amidst an ongoing rift with the world’s richest man, Stephen King announced he quit X after finding toxicity on social media. Following the ongoing discord with the wealthiest man in the world, Stephen King declared that he had quit X after finding toxicity on the social media platform.

Thursday, he took to his account to post a farewell statement after reports that the 77-year-old King of Horror had been banned from the platform by owner Musk, 53.

“I’m leaving Twitter,” King declared, saying he “tried to stay, but the atmosphere has become too toxic.” Follow me on Threads if you like,” he concluded.

The comedian, who only recently joined the ranks of Hollywood celebrities abandoning the platform, took to Twitter to refute speculation that Musk booted him off X after he made light of the billionaire’s bonhomie with President-elect Donald Trump.

“I see a rumor that I called the Musk-man Trump’s new first lady. I didn’t, but only because I didn’t think of it,” King wrote on Wednesday, referring to the AI-generated Musk memes depicting him as the First Lady of the United States.
