A rare handwritten letter by late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs speaks volumes of his attachment to the Kumbh Mela in India and has captured much attention in recent times. This reportedly is the first personal letter by the visionary in technology to be auctioned.
In the note, Jobs has mentioned how he wants to visit India and take a spiritual bath at Kumbh Mela. The letter was sold for $500,312 by international auctioneers Bonhams, which is approximately Rs 4.32 crore.
Ironically, this sale has taken place at an opportune time when Jobs’s wife Laurence Powell is in India attending Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 at Prayagraj.
The letter, which was postmarked on February 22, 1974-just a day before Jobs’ 19th birthday-was addressed to his childhood friend Tim Brown. In it, the young Jobs expresses his fascination with Zen Buddhism and his eagerness to experience the Kumbh Mela.
“I wish to go to India for the Kumbh Mela, which starts in April. I intend to leave sometime in March – not really certain yet,” he wrote to reveal a little of the mind of a future technology icon smitten with spiritual exploration.
