Harrowing Landings at Heathrow as Storm Darragh Batters the UK.
As Storm Darragh swept across the United Kingdom, pilots at London’s Heathrow Airport faced a true test of their skill and nerves. The high winds, which reached gusts of up to 50 mph, posed a significant challenge for those tasked with landing aircraft at the busy international hub.
Footage captured by the team at BigJetTV, stationed just outside Heathrow, documented the hair-raising moments as planes struggled to touch down safely.
In the video, pilots can be seen fighting to keep their aircraft steady as they made their final approach, with some forced to abort landings and attempt a second try.
The chaotic scenes at Heathrow were just a small part of the widespread disruption caused by Storm Darragh across the country. Roads, railways, and airports were all affected, with thousands of people left without power as the powerful storm battered the region.
In the worst-hit areas, particularly in Northern Ireland and along the western coasts of Wales and England, residents were advised to stay indoors as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.
The storm claimed at least two lives in England and left nearly 600,000 people in Ireland, England, and Wales without electricity, as roofs were torn off and trees toppled by the fierce gusts.
The intensity of Storm Darragh was on full display, with wind speeds reaching remarkable heights – 93 mph in Wales’ Capel Curig, 70 mph in Dublin, 62 mph in Belfast, and an astonishing 92 mph in Aberdaron.
The coastline of Cornwall also felt the storm’s fury, as kiosks on the pier at Llandudno in North Wales were knocked over.
