Super Tuesday: Alabama’s primary race takes centrestage after SC ruling

Super Tuesday takes center stage today as Alabama’s primary could prove decisive. The most watched race is for its 2nd Congressional District seat.

A total of 18 candidates – 11 Democrats and 7 Republicans – are locked in a crowded battle for the newly redrawn Southern seat.

The federal courts recently intervened to enhance Black voter clout in the district. This has supercharged the multi-candidate faceoff and empowered communities of color.

Democrats sense an opening to flip the deep red bastion. But Republicans are in no mood to relinquish their Alabama backyard without a fight.

Massive delegate hauls are at stake across 16 states today. Joe Biden faces a challenge from Rep. Dean Phillips, while Nikki Haley aims to blunt Trump’s edge following her DC win.

All political eyes are, therefore, on Alabama to see if demographic shifts fuel an upset or if traditional partisan leanings hold firm under national scrutiny. Buckle up for fireworks.
