Washington Post journalist accused of alleging Biden as ‘war criminal’ on social media.
Washington Post columnist Taylor Lorenz has come under fire over an alleged social media post criticizing US President Joe Biden.
As per reports, Lorenz had shared a selfie from inside the White House on Instagram featuring Biden in the background. Her caption reportedly called the president a “war criminal”.
The screenshot of Lorenz’s supposed Instagram story went viral after being obtained by NY Post journalist Jonathan Levine. Lorenz denied the veracity of the image.
However, NPR independently verified the post with its screenshot as well as confirmation from four anonymous sources privy to Lorenz’s social media activity.
A Washington Post spokesperson said the publication takes any breach of standards seriously and is examining the matter.
While Lorenz dismissed it as a manipulated image, the NY Post reporter maintained its credibility citing her history of untruthfulness in such cases.
The incident has sparked debate around journalists holding political officeholders accountable without crossing lines of decorum themselves. The veracity of Lorenz’s post continues to remain an issue under the Post’s scrutiny.
