Tensions boil over in UK after deadly Southport stabbing incident

Be it a recent stabbing spree in Southport that claimed three children’s lives, paid or organic, the United Kingdom has rising acts of far-right violence.

For mass stabbings, however, knife crime is far from a novelty; it does plague the country, specifically the killing of Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Bebe King, 6, by a lone knife-wielding man.

Axel Rudakubana, a 17-year-old British/Rwandan, has committed the said offense of murder as well as 10 counts of attempted murder of the offended parties.

Thus, despite the fact that the attacker was identified as white and had British nationality, local online sources spread the false information that the man was a Muslim immigrant, which led to a series of violent rallies across the United Kingdom, in Sunderland, Belfast, Cardiff, Liverpool, and Manchester.

Labor leader Keir Starmer has criticized the far-right extremism behind the protests and vowed to equip the police with more tools to bring “law and order on our streets.

Independent, the prime minister’s special envoy on political violence, John Woodcock, said the disturbance was ‘systematic and planned’ to escalate it. At the same time, the Muslim Council of Britain called on mosques to evaluate their security measures during Friday prayers.

On the one hand, Starmer recognized the usefulness of social media; on the other hand, he accused social media of ‘stoking’ violence. Thus, although social media appears to have positive uses, they must be controlled as they also pose some dangers.

The country’s Prime Minister has launched the National Violent Disorder Program, which will allow the police to patrol communities and use facial recognition to arrest the culprits of the havoc.

While citizens of the country continue to suffer the consequences after the shooting in the building in Southport, the increase in the activity of the far-right movement and the violence that accompanied it, the authorities, along with police officers, are trying to stabilize the situation and prevent further aggravation of the situation.
