The originally unstable situation in the Middle East seems to be growing worse as the US government has recently warned that Iran and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group may stage an attack on Israel in the coming 48 hours at the latest.
The Axios, an American media reported this week that Blinken informed his G7 counterparts of this development in a conference call on Monday. It is noted that Blinken said that the US is convinced that Iran and Hezbollah are planning revenge for the recent executions of the chiefs of Hamas and Hezbollah.
The Axios report said that Blinken, based on the information from three sources, said America had no idea of the timing and nature of the potential attacks but called on G7 ministers to engage in diplomacy to prevent the further escalation of the crisis.
The tensions are emerging against the backdrop of almost a nine-month war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Hamas militant organization. This rivalry has already resulted in recurrent skirmishes of various intensity between Israel and Iran, Hezbollah, and other parties loyal to Tehran.
Then, following the US’S warning, the Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant also selected his words carefully, he said: “if they dare attack Israel, they will receive rapid response and suffer very serious consequences. ”
The emerging problems have led some countries to suggest that their citizens evacuate the country as soon as possible. Several countries have joined the list of those calling on their citizens to leave the country while they still can, with commercial flights from Japan, Saudi Arabia, and France among the latest.
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has described the security situation in Lebanon as highly volatile. Thus, the Ministry has ‘called on its nationals to avoid travelling to Lebanon and recommended that those still in this country should evacuate as soon as possible. ’
While the situation remains unstable, the global community is urging the sides to avoid escalating tensions and to use diplomacy to avoid a possible regional conflict in the Middle East.
