Tragedy in Gaza: Dozens of Palestinian bodies found after withdrawal

Sadly, scores of Palestinians have been buried in the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood of Gaza City after Israeli forces pullout. Palestinian rescue workers said the grim scenario has shocked the community.

Gaza civil defence teams who entered the rubble responded to overkill, finding dozens of dead people, most of whom were families, women and children. Some of the corpses that were recovered had been chewed by dogs.

At least 60 terrorists were reported to have been counted, some of whom were buried where they had fallen while others were carried to nearby hospitals. The finding was made after the Israeli troops had moved into the locality on Monday, telling the civilians to leave.

The governing Palestinian group, Hamas, says the ‘bloodshed’ that has taken place was ‘proof of the barbarities;’ it has urged the international community to investigate and bring to justice accusing Israel of perpetrating ‘heinous abuses’ on the Palestinian people whom, it said Israel is in a ‘war of extermination. ’

While the world progressively faces the deepening of the conflict, negotiators press on for an agreement on the cessation of hostilities. But, I think with due respect to my callers, the actual problem lies with Israel as one of its senior Hamas officials described the country’s act in the negotiation as ‘stalling and time-wasting’.

The incident that occurred in Gaza City has again shed light on the hopeless situation in the region as well as the necessity to find a final solution to the conflict. Therefore, the international community must mobilize itself for action over the situation with a view of avoiding more loss of the innocent.
