Trudeau slams India’s response on Nijjar killing case

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said authorities have “clear and compelling evidence” that agents of the Indian government are engaged in activities endangering public safety, including covert activities and coercion targeted against South Asian Canadians.

For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau voiced deep concern over New Delhi’s moves in Ottawa and said that the country’s law enforcement agencies had made “several attempts” to cooperate with their Indian counterparts on these matters but have been “repeatedly refused.”

There is clear and compelling evidence that agents of the Indian government” are involved in the activities that pose a threat to public safety, covert operations, and coercion on South Asian Canadians that further escalated the diplomatic row between two countries, according to the statement made by Trudeau.

This follows after India recalled its high commissioner to Ottawa and expelled six Canadian diplomats. The tit-for-tat move comes after Canada expelled six Indian diplomats and linked them to an investigation into the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
