In one of the biggest operations since the inauguration of Donald Trump, U.S. authorities have upped efforts to push back against illegal immigration, arresting and deporting hundreds of people seeking to live the American dream. The massive operation came just three days after the new administration took office.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted that U.S. officials also arrested 538 illegal aliens in that timeframe, “including a known terrorist and four members of the Tren de Aragua gang. as well as numerous others convicted of child sex crimes.” “The Trump Administration has initiated the largest deportation operation in history-Promises made, promises kept,” Leavitt said online.
The administration gave a hint of its strategy to secure the nation’s borders, detailing crimes associated with some of those arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Among the crimes included rape and continuous sexual abuse of minors.
On January 20, after the inauguration, President Trump signed a string of executive orders that aimed to “Protect the American people against invasion.” The order highlighted what the administration called an unprecedented surge of illegal immigration over the last four years, saying that millions of people entered the country at the border or on commercial flights in violation of federal law.
The government order underlined that many individuals who are unlawfully in the U.S. pose major threats to national security and public safety by committing acts of heinous nature against its innocent citizens.
On January 23, Congress granted approval to a GOP-backed bill-the Laken Riley Act-zeroing in on detention and deportation of undocumented migrants entering the country unauthorized and charged with specific crimes. The developments mark the decisive shift seen in immigration enforcement under the new administration.
