US President Donald Trump, in his 100th day in office, was confronted with a direct question regarding Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, in which he intimated that he does not have complete confidence in him.
Speaking to ABC’s Terry Moran, Trump was asked if he had “100% confidence” in Hegseth, who is under accusation of sharing sensitive details regarding a military operation in Yemen through the messaging app Signal.
To the question, the president replied, “I don’t have 100% confidence in anything. ” When asked again, he visibly bristled and responded, “Okay, anything, do I have 100%—it’s a stupid question.”
No, no, no, you don’t have 100%, only a liar would say ‘I have 100% confidence.’ I don’t have 100% confidence that we’re going to finish this interview,” Trump shot back at Moran.
Even though he did not respond to the question directly about the defence secretary, Trump stated that he appreciates Hegseth as a part of his administration. I had a conversation with him,” Trump stated. “He’s a very talented fellow.”.
Hegseth is under internal review by The New York Times over the alleged disclosure of classified information regarding the specifics of a March airstrike on Yemen’s Houthi militants to his wife and brother in a private Signal chat.
