Trump biographer claims former president is aware of cognitive decline

Biographers weigh in on Trump’s recent public appearances.

As the oldest candidate to contest presidential elections, Donald Trump had questioned Joe Biden’s mental acuity in the past. Now, biographers have analyzed Trump’s recent public speeches.

Timothy O’Brien, author of a Trump biography, believes the former president is “hyper-aware” that people have noted he is making less sense.

O’Brien said Trump’s “convoluted explanations” for frequent rants and mixing up of names reflect someone who is “very troubled and desperate.”

Another biographer, Jennifer Mercieca, provided an alternative view that Trump spins negatives positively. He claims “unnamed experts” praise how he “weaves” unrelated topics together brilliantly.

Trump recently tried justifying mentions of Hannibal Lecter by linking the fictional killer to migrants. Last week, he asserted English professors admire his speaking style.

While viewpoints differ on the reasons, biographers tracking Trump closely notice changes in his public communications and mental alertness. This has drawn renewed focus on the challenges of aging in powerful offices.

The analyses present political challenges for Trump as he continues shaping narratives but also risks undermining prior questions raised about his opponents.
