Trump campaign rakes in $141M in May after hush money verdict

Trump’s campaign and the RNC collectively raised over $141 million in May, and much of it was contributed to in the wake of the former president’s criminal conviction for his role in the hush money payments scandal.

As per the federal election rules, the Trump campaign did not report the details of its fundraising until later this month, yet the recent success prompted the camp to release the figures early to spur that the verdict encouraged several Trump fans to contribute to the campaign. The continuing conviction also raises uncertainty about whether it will slow down Trump’s bid to reclaim his presidency.

The massive figure could help offset the funds deficit for the Trump campaign and GOP to match Biden; the campaign did not disclose the May report. Currently, Trump and the GOP announced the fundraising of $76 million in April, while Biden and the DNC announced the fundraising of $51m.

Trump’s team supported this by posting that over a third of $16m was received online within 24 hours of the verdict announcement, and 25 percent of such donors were first-time donors. Nonetheless, the Biden team rubbished the numbers, claiming that Trump’s ‘billionaire mates’ are funding ‘the campaign of a white collar thief. ‘
