Trump links assassination attempts to being ‘consequential president.’
Former US President Donald Trump addressed his first campaign rally since the Florida golf course shooting incident.
While talking about heavy tariffs on car imports from Mexico and China, Trump drew a parallel between facing threats and being an impactful leader.
“Only presidents who make a difference get targeted, right?” he stated, portraying himself as a savior of the domestic auto industry.
The Republican leader praised his rival Kamala Harris for contacting him after the thwarted assassination bid.
The vice president had conveyed there was no space for political violence in the country, Harris said in a separate interaction.
Despite acknowledging Harris’ concern, Trump has subtly blamed the Biden administration’s rhetoric for allegedly inspiring the would-be shooter.
Campaigning presidential candidate Harris in the meantime focused on Pennsylvania, a pivotal swing state.
She asserted to Black journalists that ensuring the safety of public figures, regardless of differences, was paramount in a democracy.
As elections near, tensions continue between warring sides even as leaders stress the importance of non-violence.
