Trump says conviction ‘very hard’ on wife Melania.
Former US President Donald Trump has claimed his criminal conviction from last week’s New York trial has had a tough impact on his wife, Melania. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the First Lady has found the situation difficult, adding the ordeal has been “tougher on them (family)” than him.
Last week, a jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016 in the run-up to the presidential polls.
The felonies convicted could attract up to four years in prison each. Trump has called the case rigged and pledged to appeal, dismissing concerns about possible imprisonment.
Stormy Daniels, who testified against Trump in the trial, said she was shocked by the quick verdict and believes the former president deserves jail time along with community service.
She maintained that the case was not over for her, dealing with the legal saga’s fallout.
Underscoring the toll, details regarding Trump and Daniels’ alleged encounter in 2006 had emerged during proceedings, causing embarrassment.
With three other pending criminal cases and dozens of charges, Trump continues facing mounting legal challenges even as Melania copes with the distressing situation at home.
