Trump dismisses four Biden appointees on first day in office

In a major move on his first day in office, President Donald Trump announced the removal of four senior government officials appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, through a post on his official Truth Social account. This move underlines Trump’s commitment to reshaping the administration according to his vision.

Trump added in his post that the firings were only the beginning: “Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again.” He said Truth Social would be the “Official Notice of Dismissal” for the ones affected.

The officials let go include Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council. Trump revived his well-known catchphrase “YOU’RE FIRED,” reminiscent of his tenure as host of the reality show The Apprentice.

Among the actions, Trump signed an executive order forcing federal employees to return to offices full-time and putting an end to remote work arrangements that had been in place. The White House has confirmed the directive, stating that all heads of departments must immediately take necessary steps to make the transition smooth.

At a signing ceremony for several executive orders, Trump brandished each document in front of the audience as an aide described major changes. The actions included the revocation of 78 taken by Biden- one of the largest rollbacks of any predecessor’s policies.

Trump took the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, DC, on January 20, 2024. He swore to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and to defend the Constitution of the United States. Later, after being sworn in, Trump said, “My life was saved for a reason; I was saved by God to make America great again.
