Trump rallies supporters with divisive rhetoric

Ex-President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, conducted his first campaign rally on Saturday in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, after attempts on his life were made the other week. This brought Trump back into his campaign style and rhythm with a detailed and indignation two-hour speech that contained insults to opponents, lies, and provocative words.

Thus, while some pundits were already appealing for national unity following the shooting, Trump’s speech is far from unifying. Trump insulted the Democratic President Joe Biden as a feeble man and Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, as a dog.

Venting on other Democratic leaders, Trump insulted Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris. He also continued with the conspiracy theories of the 2020 election and encouraged voters to give a ‘a landslide that no one can cheat. ‘

The rally was also the first in which Trump and his Vice-Presidential running mate, JD Vance, were jointly present. At the moment, Biden is in isolation after testing positive for Covid 19; he has stated that he will not drop out of the race and has tried to shift the attention back to Trump, painting the picture of a ‘bloody and dark picture of the future’.

Even when gauged nationally, although opinion polls show a close race, Biden appears to be losing. However, in the swing states, which are decisive in determining the outcome of the election, Biden is lagging behind. The president, an 81-year-old man, is coming under increased pressure to quit his bid for re-election following a bad debate last month.
