Trump urged Netanyahu to quickly end Gaza conflict, “killing has to stop

Donald Trump called on Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza as soon as possible, while condemning the demands for the ceasefire by Biden and Harris and calling supporters of the Palestinians ‘thugs supporting Hamas’.

Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump said Thursday that when he met with the Israeli prime minister last July, he urged Netanyahu to bring a swift end to Israel’s war in Gaza, but Trump also criticized demands for a ceasefire.

“He knows what he is doing; I did urge him to get this done,’ President Trump said to the White House correspondents on Thursday. ‘It has to get over with fast. …. Get your victory and get it over with. It has to stop; the killing has to stop.

Trump was talking about the meeting he had with Netanyahu at the later part of July in his residence in Mar-a-Lago when Netanyahu was on a visit to the United States. He also had an audience with President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on his visit.

There were apparently raised chances of a large-scaled war in the Middle East after recent assassinations of Palestinian Islamist group Hamas ‘chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and the Hezbollah armed wing chief Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Both withdrew threats of retaliation against Israel.

At an event addressing the issue of antisemitism later on Thursday, Trump denounced Biden’s months-long call for cessation of the fighting in Gaza.
