Two Israeli security personnel killed in Hebron shooting

Two Israeli security personnel died, and one was injured in the circumstances that involved shooting at a checkpoint in Hebron while the Israeli forces escalated their attacks on the occupied West Bank, especially Jenin.

The shooting happened at a time when the Israeli army sustained its raid on Jenin for the fifth day in a row, killing not less than 24 Palestinians. In two weeks since starting its military operation in Gaza on October 7, Israel has been reported to have killed over 500 West Bank and more than 4000 Gazans over the last eleven months.

Israeli rescue teams said the two who perished were a man and a woman, while another man, in his 50s, was severely injured in the assault next to the Tarqumiyah checkpoint, south of Hebron. The first reports said that the dead were policemen attacked by a car of Palestinians who passed nearby.

Israeli soldiers are searching the houses in the Palestinian area of Idhna, which is near the scene of the shooting. Another local journalist, Akram Natsheh, pointed out increased sorrow in Hebron as all approaches to the city were blocked by the Israeli troops, and helicopters were hovering above.

As the fighting continued in Jenin, Palestinians were provided with very limited supplies of food, water, and electricity: local governments stated that 70% of roads in the region had been destroyed by bulldozers.

The Israelis have engaged in major operations within the northern areas, especially in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas, with the use of tanks and drones. He said that rising tensions in Gaza raise the possibility that the ongoing military actions could spread into the West Bank, which raised concerns about Palestinian displacement.
