Top US Official Meets Saudi Crown Prince to Discuss Security Pact.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan travelled to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and discuss a proposed strategic security agreement between the two nations.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the discussions centred around a “semi-final” draft of the wide-ranging pact. It noted clauses relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza were part of the ongoing negotiations.
Saudi Arabia has long advocated the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the pre-1967 boundaries, with East Jerusalem as its capital. However, Israel’s political dynamics pose obstacles to this resolution.
No photos were released of the behind-closed-doors meeting where Sullivan and the Crown Prince also touched upon stabilising the wider Middle East region. This comes amidst tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and recent attacks across borders.
The proposed deal is expected to deepen Saudi-US defence and economic ties while addressing Riyadh’s concerns. However, reported provisions for domestic Saudi uranium enrichment have raised proliferation risks.
Sullivan will now travel to Israel to continue engagements. Both nations see the pact as strengthening security, but reaching a consensus on sensitive political issues remains delicate. Ongoing deliberations aim for a balanced solution acceptable to all sides.
