The US warns Iran against alleged plots to assassinate Trump.
The United States has cautioned Iran against continuing with alleged plans to target former President Donald Trump, saying it would construe any assassination attempt as an act of war.
Citing unnamed sources, reports said President Joe Biden has regularly received briefings about these threats and directed his administration to respond firmly to Iran.
Tensions have simmered since Trump in 2020 authorized a drone strike killing senior Iranian general Qasem Soleimani over intelligence about impending attacks on US interests.
Iran has consistently denied allegations of interfering in American politics while blaming Washington for meddling in its own affairs over decades through events like the 1953 coup.
The White House considers the matter a top national security priority and strongly condemns Iran’s “brazen threats”.
A Security Council spokesperson said appropriate agencies are keeping Trump’s security detail updated around the clock on evolving risks.
Biden has also reiterated to the Secret Service to secure every protective measure needed for the ex-president’s safety, as he campaigns against Vice President Kamala Harris in upcoming elections.
