UK airports in chaos as border control systems suffer widespread outage

The UK Home Office announced on Wednesday that the border control systems across the country are now functioning after the intense outbreak that caused panic and long queues at the airports.

Travelers got stuck in lengthy lines that were beyond their control. They also had to go through manual passport checks, which caused them delays and frustration. The interruption was due to a fault in the nation’s main Border Crossing security database, which closed the electronic gates and imposed manual checks.

Border Force officers had to depend on the backup databases, which greatly reduced the efficiency of border control. Among the airports affected were Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Edinburgh, and Manchester, and images on social media depicted the long queues that snaked through the terminals.

The system that was in charge of Cross-referencing information of traveler with databases of terrorism and immigration, a government’s secure Wi-Fi network had a breakdown. A straight connection to the system of security of the place was impossible, making the electronic gates useless. Even though the Home Office stated that border security was not affected, and there was no evidence of cyber attacks, they still believed that hacking the refugee camps was a big problem.

Heathrow Airport declared that all the border control systems were working properly, and London Stansted Airport announced that the outage had been sorted out. When operations restarted, the authorities were set to restore the usual activities and ease the situation of the people traveling.
