Chinmoy Krishna Das has emerged as the icon of persecution in Bangladesh after being arrested on November 25 last year on sedition charges.
Only days after Tulsi Gabbard swore in office as the US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) on the Bhagavad Gita, a UK-based organization sent her a letter requesting to facilitate the release of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das who has been in Bangladeshi prison for six years for speaking up for the persecuted Hindus.
Secular Bangladesh Movement, UK — considering Gabbard’s earlier affiliation with ISKCON such as its 50th Anniversary Gala Event in Washington in 2016 when she was a keynote speaker — called on her to act on the issue of “unjust detention of Chinmoy Krishna Das, an ISKCON monk”. “I ask you to use your voice to call for the release of Chinmay Krishna Das and pressure the Yunus government to cease its persecution of Hindus,” the letter states.
The Hindu monk has emerged as the symbol of persecution in Bangladesh after his arrest on November 25 last year. He has been in prison ever since, charged with sedition. He was the divisional organising secretary of ISKCON in Chattogram and was the core of the protests against minority persecution under the Yunus regime. His case is either prohibited from being heard in court or the proceedings under threat from radical forces.
