Ukraine drone attacks spark fires at Russian energy plants

Ukraine has started over the past weeks a series of drone raids at night against Russia to target the latter’s critical infrastructure, leading to fires at two electrical power stations.

In its air force’s update on Friday, Russia’s defense ministry said over 158 Ukrainian drones attacked 15 Russian areas, including Moscow.

According to the Russian military, all of these drones were either shot down or neutralized.

However, due to the attack, there is a fire in an oil refinery in Moscow in a “separate technical room,” said the city’s mayor.

According to the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, at least 11 drones attacked the capital city and nearby regions.

At the same time, 75 miles or 120 km away from the Russian capital in the Tver region, loud explosions were reported near the Konakovo Power Station.

Russian reports about it: fire at the facility.

The region’s governor, Igor Rudenya, said that, for instance, a fire triggered by an attack in Konakovsky district has been extinguished, although the details of what was affected were not explained.

Local officials also described attempts by drones to attack Kashira Power Plant in the Moscow region—bbut there were no fires, damage, or deaths.

BBC Verify last year reviewed and authenticated several videos in social media claiming that there had been blasts at all three places. Subsequently, fires seem to have erupted and are visible in the clips at Konakovo Power Station and the Moscow refinery.

The Ukrainian government has remained mute on the allegations.

However, Ukrainian forces have been increasing long-range attacks on Russian soil in the last few months and using scores of drones at specific targets several times a week.

BBC News has been informed that western technology and finances are helping them conduct hundreds of drone strikes deep into Russian territory.
