An F-16 fighter jet, supplied by the United States and which was flying with the Ukrainians, crashed on Monday (Aug 28) with its pilot; an Ukrainian MP alleges friendly fire.
The Ukrainian Army said the jet was engaged in driving back a large Russian airborne assault when it happened.
That is why the Patriot air defense missile system used by the Ukrainian forces to counter the Russian threats might have downed the jet, according to lawmaker Mariana Bezuglaya.
‘My data suggest that the F-16 that was piloted by Aleksey ‘Moonfish’ Mes was shot down by a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system because of discoordination of the units,’ Bezuglaya wrote on Telegram.
