Ukraine pleads for long-range weapons as Russia escalates Attacks

In a message possibly provoking a grim inspiration, Ukrainian leader Zelenskyy has appealed for weapons that will ward off Moscow’s onslaught of bombs and drones from his towns and frontline soldiers.

The appeal was made after a massive overnight attack; Russia hit its fifth critical infrastructural target in the capital, Kyiv, in a two-week period. It is for this reason that despite 35 of 39 drones and two cruise missiles being downed by Ukraine’s air defenses, the scale of the assault at this stage makes it clear that the threat is increasing.

Last night alone, nearly 40 ‘Shaheds’ were used by the Russian army against Ukraine, the president stressed, adding that our defenders of the sky effectively destroyed most of them; the drones are Iranian-made.

Missiles were launched at 10 of Ukraine’s regions, due to which the military administration of the Sumy region reported that infrastructure in the Shostkynskyi district was hit by Russia’s missile.

Zelenskyy has many times urged Western allies to provide Ukraine with long-range strike capabilities, claiming that this would be a ‘proportional response to Russian terror. While the NATO members are divided, some allowing Ukraine to use the supplied weapons in their attacks inside Russian territory, others have set more restrictions.

“Our sufficient long-range capabilities should be a fair response to Russian terror. Everybody who stands with us in this stands for the defense against terror,”

Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine’s cities and troops have been under constant missile and drone attacks, and with Zelenskyi’s notice, this aggressiveness is due to Russia testing new ways and tactics to infiltrate Kyiv.

With the unfolding of a new stage of the war, Ukrainians are as united as ever in their desire to protect their nation; however, there is a growing need for new, superior equipment.
