Ukraine pushes into Russia in surprise Kursk offensive

Of particular note, the Ukrainian forces are yet pressing their advantage in Russia’s Kursk district in an extension of their cross-border assault that is on its fourth day. The Russian defense ministry says Ukraine lost more than 280 personnel on the last day; this is unconfirmed.

According to the updates, Ukraine’s forces have provisionally crossed over 10km into Russia—the deepest they have ever gone since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. Despite Kyiv’s official non-recognition of the incursion, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia should “, to some extent, feel” the repercussions of its actions.

The military conflict has come into proximity to a nuclear power plant; the UN’s nuclear agency has appealed to both actors in the conflict to refrain from any actions that may lead to a catastrophe.

Again, some people from the Kursk region have been relocated, and one of them has attributed the occurrence as terrible due to bombardment.

In return, Russia increases the number of its troops and proclaims a counter-terrorist operation in the region. At the same time, Ukraine says it has leveled a Russian airfield far in the interior to demolish a store of glide bombs.

This offense has surprised Russia’s military and the Kremlin as Kyiv assumes the role of a preemptive fighter. The difference is still a hair’s breadth, and Ukraine continues to lack numerical superiority over its opponent, the Russian forces.
