According to the statement of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, funds for this tranche originate from a larger capital of $7. 8 billion in direct budgetary assistance package, which the United States is to provide Ukraine this year.
”This is the first portion of the direct budget support from the USA in 2024. In total, Ukraine will receive $7. 8 billion of direct budgetary assistance from the USA this year, thanks to which we will be able to stem through this financial period”, Shmyhal wrote in his message on the Telegram messenger.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry has explained that the grant money will finance only necessary expenditures, namely salaries for teachers, the staff of the State Emergency Service, and other public servants. Further, it will cover expenditures relevant to displaced persons, low-income families/individuals, and persons with disabilities.
‘The grant, planned to be received in the first months of 2019, will allow the Government of Ukraine to compensate for the priority social and humanitarian expenses without adding up the debt load,’ Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko commented on this decision.
Washington has contributed $26. 7 billion in direct budgetary support to Ukraine since February this year, said the Finance Ministry, citing data from the World Bank. Interestingly, Marchenko stressed that the grant is provided within the framework of the largest support package for Ukraine, which is $ 60 billion.
The injection of $3. Currently, $9 billion in grant funds from the United States should powerfully support the Ukrainian government to continue to pay for key public needs and help those who fell into serious difficulties during these years.
