The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that Israeli forces are using ‘lethal war-like tactics’ in the occupied West Bank. The agency highlighted new attacks by Israel, which led to more than a quarter of a dozen people killed, including children, for the past week. These operations, predominantly involving the refugee camps in Tulkarem and Jenin, are the biggest since the second Intifada thing in the early 2000s.
These operations have resulted in high fatalities as well as several detentions while essential facilities such as roads have been dynamited through the use of Israel’s military bulldozers. Other organizations, such as OCHA, have embarked on mobilizing various organizations to evaluate and identify the extent of the extent of the devastation and the need for humanitarian assistance.
In Tulkarem, the assessment teams were able to verify 120 cases of displacement, which included more than 40 children whose houses were bombed. Studies revealed that about 13,000 residents of the Nur Shams refugee camp were affected due to the disruption of the water supply system, and it was observed that there was sewage threatening the residents. It has also been established that the local people are stressed to the maximum and require psychosocial support.
The Israeli authorities did not permit the same assessment team to enter Jenin, resulting in questions concerning the hurdles facing humanitarian aid. OCHA highlighted that such restrictions limit the possibility of delivering proper humanitarian assistance, further pointing to the fact that the movement of ambulances and medical teams has already been delayed since the beginning of the operation.
The current operation of the Israeli military in Jenin is on its seventh day, while in Tulkarem, it has lasted for three days. There are reports of heavy damage, with Israeli forces said to have thrown bombs on the refugee camp and caused fires in the al-Shamaliya district. Guerrilla snipers are deployed on tall structures, including buildings; drones are also used to monitor the area, and the use of bulldozers continues to demolish infrastructures with no mercy on any street or alleyway.
Also, current Israeli operations involve air raids and the following locations and the Jalazone refugee camp north of Ramallah, where Palestinians have been arrested and interrogated. Other operations were in Beit Surik, Qalqilyaed Nablus, and other places. The Israeli security forces kept Hebron under siege for the fourth consecutive day, building more checkpoints and gates.
