UN Human Rights Chief expresses grave concern over developments in Gaza.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has voiced ‘horror’ at the destruction of medical facilities in Gaza and reports of mass burial sites emerging from the region.
Through a spokesperson, Volker Turk stated he was alarmed by the destruction of the Nasser and Al Shifa centers as well as revelations of hundreds of bodies housed in mass graves at Khan Younis Hospital.
As per Palestinian authorities, 283 corpses were recovered from Nasser and 30 at Al Shifa, though figures are being independently verified. Some bodies bore restraint marks, signaling potential serious rights and humanitarian law violations requiring investigation.
Turk’s office is working to corroborate the claims while raising alarms over the unearthing of multiple unidentified individuals.
Recalling recent Israeli strikes in Gaza eliminated mostly women and children, the UN rights chief warned of further atrocities if a full-scale Rafah incursion materialised.
As concerns grow, the international community awaits more clarity on the unfolding tragedy even as civilian suffering intensifies amid ongoing hostilities crippling vital infrastructure.
The UN remains focused on ceasing escalating violence and upholding international covenants to protect vulnerable Palestinians.
