Unarmed black woman killed by Illinois deputy: Biden demands justice

This sparked an outrage among the people in the United States after a 36-year-old Black woman, Sonya Massey, was fatally shot by an Illinois sheriff’s deputy inside her house. The horrifying incident, which took place and was recorded on body camera, has received a quick response from President Joe Biden, who condoles and calls for justice.

The Mishap happened on July 6th at night when Massey reported to 911 that he had seen a prowler. Deputies Sean Grayson and other officers were the ones who received the call and, at first, seemed to have a normal conversation with Massey. The incident that led to the shooting took a tragic twist after Grayson asked Massey to drop a pot of hot water on him before shooting her in the face.

Criminal complainants, on their part, said that Massey was not in any way endangering Grayson’s life during the incident and is seen as purely an unnecessary murder not sought by the victim nor deserved by the alleged perpetrator.

President Biden, in his statement on Facebook, referred to it as a tragic event, indicating that Massey should be alive today; she was a young black woman who was also a mother, friend, and daughter.

For this, they said, ‘Sonya’s family deserves justice,’ and with a heavy heart, Biden to the children and anyone who knew Massey now has to live ‘without their mommy.’ The president also urged Congress to approve the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and stated that the basic principle of justice is at stake. ’’

Since then, Grayson has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct. Should he be convicted on the murder charge, he stands to face the maximum sentence of serving a life term in prison.

It is such a sad story that it is a familiar tale of police brutality and racial injustice, which is still rampant in the country. During the progress of the case, the nation will focus on the desire to bring justice to Sonya Massey’s family.
